A truly fantastic gem of a resort
This incredible hotel is a fantastic place to stay and unwind from all the stresses of the world. Situated just South (400m or so) from the main Ngwe Saung high street the resort is immaculately presented in a naturally landscaped environment leading directly on to a white sand beach.
By local comparison this is relatively expensive place to stay, but worth every penny. From the organic veggie garden to the perfectly kept pool area, literally everything is excellent. We ate locally and had fantastic meals and what stood out was that the restaurant(s) in the hotel were easily as good and arguably better.
The main Brizio restaurant had a broad menu, covering everything from local delicacies to western favourites (it has the prerequisite Club Sandwich - which was good!) and the drinks menu was equally as comprehensive. The buffet breakfast that was included in our room rate was held here and offered a good variety of fresh food.
The Village House served only Burmese dishes but these were exceptional. We had a chicken curry that was so flavoursome and fresh salads that just rocked. Set under palms and next to the veggie garden it was a very pleasant alternative to the main restaurant.
We had been warned that Burmese food was uninteresting, oily and possibly detrimental to ones health. Well I can unequivocally say that is not true of the restaurants in Eskala.
Our rooms were in the main block with balconies facing the sea. Unfortunately the beach view villas were booked and we had an obstructed view of the beach. That said at no point were these rooms sold as beach view and as it was we didn't use the balconies! The rooms themselves were like the rest of the hotel. Spacious, comfortable, very clean and neatly presented. The bathrooms were immaculate and came with the usual toiletries. The beds were very comfortable and the mosquito net turn-down services very good. (That said we were very lucky and no issues with mozzies at all.)
The pool was meticulously cared for, I noted the water being tested regularly, and the surrounding lounge area was well kept. From the pool you took a walk across a bridge to the beach. The sheltered lounges and beach itself were again well kept. What was reassuring was as we went to the waters edge (and into the warm sea) life guards were on hand to keep us safe. We used the beach massage service and this too was very good.
Whilst facilities are important a stay away is made (or broken) by the staff. I have saved the best till last. Not a single member of the Eskala staff disappointed. From the ladies at reception who were attentive, helpful, efficient and immediately welcoming through to the gardeners and life guards. All were smiling, helpful, polite and when called upon very attentive. The cleaning staff did a great job, the waiting staff never went wrong (something as simple as reading back your order makes all the difference) and the whole team puts to shame some of the supposedly more established operators we have stayed with.
A great example: On our final night we got to talking to the executive chef and he asked when we were checking out and we said early the following morning. He asked the family if there was anything we specially wanted in the buffet. A universal request for banana pancakes was made. Low and behold when we came down to brekkie there were banana pancakes. It brought a fabulous smile to all our faces!
We had muted expectations of a resort so secluded and in a country only recently opening its doors to international tourism. Having been fortunate to have travelled pretty extensively across Asia this wonderfully impressive resort, a perfect combination of staff and facilities, put the vast majority of them in the shade.
We rarely visit the same hotel twice but would not give it a second thought if the opportunity to stay at the Eskala presented itself in the future.
One of the best in Ngwe Saung
We lived in this hotel 3 nights and find it of the best.
Hotel and rooms
Rooms are modern and 24H diesel generator available, new, served well and have all necessary things. On other hand territory of hotel is also good, a lot of palms and greet territory which create shadows. Own beach line with beach chair-beds and big umbrellas. Please note, that hotel is not outstanding but in compare with other in region one of the best.
What is not so good is price, it is rather expensive for such a level hotel, but all such level hotels are almost same range. So if we compare price with market prices – this hotel has rather acceptable price for his level.
Very good. In walking distance from Village where you can buy something, and there a lots of restaurants, on other hand has own beach and restaurant (not expensive)
Is good, rather enough choice of food and fruits.
Is good and supportive, management also attentive to guests, sometimes, if you are free, they may come and ask “how is your stay in hotel?”, which is very good.
Pool and gym.
Pool is good and clean, rather good size, no GYM.
